Free Cooking Classes
It seems everyone is into cooking! Even my teenage son watches some of the cooking shows with me on TV. I have always loved cooking since I was a child and I still do. I think up new recipes all the time and like to try new additions to my old time favorite recipes. Cooking classes can be expensive, so today I am going to talk about free cooking classes.
You don’t have to look far to get a free cooking class. Look to the people that are closest to you. I have learned more from the people around me than on any of the cooking shows on television. The last cooking class I took was in Junior High!! I learned a lot from my teacher, but have learned more myself by trial and error. If you don’t try, you will never learn. So don’t be afraid to talk to everyone you know and find out their secrets. Everyone loves to share a favorite recipe.Next, you can call your resource department at your city. They should have a list of events and classes going on in your city. I know the local Henry’s Market aka Wild Oats has a cooking class almost every weekend.
If you are interested in going to a culinary school, or in taking cooking classes, there are free open houses that you can go to so you can see the school in action. We visited the Culinary Institute in San Diego and were invited to stay for lunch in their cafeteria. We declined because we didn’t have time, but I thought it was wonderful that they offered. Another avenue would be to volunteer at a church function. I once volunteered to serve at a Boy Scouts pancake breakfast. I watched as the pancakes and sausages were being cooked on a huge griddle. I was young at the time, but I still remember it to this day.
Another way to learn cooking is to get a job in a restaurant. You would be surprised at how much you can learn by being a fry cook, or making sub sandwiches. The best way to learn to cook, is to just do it!! We all learn from our mistakes, and if you burn the roast, you can pretty much guarantee, you’ll never do that again.
